This event has ended.

Sakura Exhibition is a group exhibition project organized by Hyacca, a community of illustrators established by voluntary members in the spring of 2009. The project originated as a themed exhibition of works related to cherry blossoms (sakura), timed with the blossom viewing season. 216 participants have exhibited total of 307 works for the project in 2009, far surpassing our initial expectation, resulting in a touring exhibition in two New York locations in addition to the original two in Tokyo.

This year, again, many participants have gathered for our second project, Sakura Exhibition 2010. In Japan, the exhibition was held in two venues in Tokyo (Gallery Sakura and The Artcomplex Center of Tokyo), and then toured to Kyoto (Gallery Fuchoan). We are thrilled that the works of the talented Japanese illustrators will now be on view in New York.

Cherished since the ancient times, cherry blossoms are now internationally known as Japan’s national flower. In the hope of introducing the appeal of the Japanese illustrators worldwide as with the cherry blossoms, Sakura Exhibition was planned as a contest show with an open application. Each of the participating illustrators explores the cherry blossoms and blossom filled sceneries with his/her own aesthetic approach. We invite you to join us in enjoying the resulting unique interpretations of sakura.
