In an age where the media and people in general tend to focus on the negative in the everyday, artists Trish Mayo and Stephen Sandoval propose another approach by introducing their interactive, community-based, social media installation entitled A Million and One Thanks. It begins with an open call to the community to contribute their special thank yous for the important things in their lives. The installation will feature photographs, a shrine-like display of objects and contributions received using the social media sites Twitter and Facebook or via email allowing anyone to submit their thanks and contribute to the installation. Online submissions will be accepted throughout the exhibition and added in the gallery space creating a constantly evolving display. Contributions will also be accepted by drop off into a box at the Local Project gallery. The goal of the project is to ask participants to explore their feelings, connect with others and celebrate the people, places or things that make their lives richer and fuller and to ultimately say THANKS!
