Ikuko Roth "Landscapes Flowerscapes"
Gallery Onetwentyeight
This event has ended.
My painting arises from my admiration for nature. I get inexhaustable inspiration from it and pull out plastic elements and fix my empathy on my canvas. I stand on Cezanne’s and Bonnard’s modern painting tradition.
I was born in Tokyo, Japan and came to the U.S. in 1962. My long career expands over six decades (I’m 82 years old). I have been exposed to the many phases of the New York art world, but in the 70s, 80s, and 90s I was devoted to outdoor oil landscape: Maine coast, eastern Canada, N.Y. State, Washington State, Italy, France. I love dramatic dynamic viestas: sea, mountains, waterfalls, river. I have depicted the spirit of places and respected their features with free brush strokes and color.
Recently at the Notch State Park in Massachesetts I first encountered blossoming Moutain Laurels. I was astonished! The whole valley was pink! This led me into flowery landscape.
Most recently my broken leg accident obliged me to do studio painting from my memory. I wish my joy of life through my painting will make people happy.
