Sandow Birk "American Qur’an"
P.P.O.W.
This event has ended.
For the first time in New York City, Sandow Birk will exhibit the next installation of his American Qur’an series. Birk translates the Qur’an to enable a western audience to understand the teachings within this holy text. Birk uses stylized calligraphy, influenced by graffiti, and also incorporates illustrated scenes of contemporary life. In this exhibition there will be seventeen suras, chapters, on view, each 16 x 24 inches on paper. Previous suras have been exhibited at Catherine Clark Gallery, San Francisco and Koplin del Rio Gallery, Culver City. This is an ongoing project for which Birk will illustrate the Holy Qur’an in its entirety, 114 suras on over 300 pages.
