This event has ended.

DOUBLE CUT 2011 exhibition is the newest installment in Elizabeth
Gregory-Gruen’s exploration of shadow and color using her “Cut-Work”
technique.

Elizabeth Gregory – Gruen began the “Cut-Work” technique using a surgical Scalpel to spontaneously cut layers of paper using her original images; capturing light and creating spaces for the shadows to fall. Each layer works in unison making a unique visual vibration.

Now, Gregory-Gruen takes this effect one step further, incorporating vivid colors coupled with a double image technique, where each piece removed in the cutting process is rebuilt exactly in the mirror position giving the image maximum impact.

While exploring the use of shadow through cutting, Gregory-Gruen deconstructs several “Cut-Works” using a 12 gauge shotgun. The shotgun blasts achieve an elegance in their primal desolation.

Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen’s “Cut-Work” has been featured in Peninsula Magazine, The Architect Newspaper, NY Arts magazine and AWANTEDMAG.com.

Elizabeth is a third generation artist with a parallel career in fashion design. She is currently working for the New York City based label Michael Kors. Her design work has appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and In Style magazines. She resides in New York City with her husband photographer Bob Gruen.
