"Line Up: Rigging Knots And Glimpses Of A Master Class" Exhibition
Clic Bookstore & Gallery (255 Centre St.)
This event has ended.
"Line Up" is a unique artistic collaboration and offers a rare peek into the world of renowned high wire artist Philippe Petit. Photographs of Petit taken by Victoria Dearing will accompany Petit’s own intricate pencil drawings of his rigging knots.
Philippe Petit is the world’s greatest high wire artist. On August 7, 1974, he became instantly world famous when he tight-rope walked between the two towers of the World Trade Center, an adventure that became the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary "MAN ON WIRE." Since the World Trade Center walk, he has performed in over 100 venues including Paris, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Jerusalem; served as the Artist-in-Residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine; and been awarded the prestigious title of Chevalier des Arts & des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. He has published eight books and gives lectures and workshops on creativity. In addition to his wire-walking, Petit is also an amateur oenologist, a bullfighter, an expert on 18th century timber-framing and lock-picking, and has been arrested over 500 times for street-juggling.
In the summer of 2010, Petit allowed himself to be photographed in a workshop for the first time ever by New York based photographer Victoria Dearing. Dearing has exhibited in New York and Milan and curated several photographic exhibitions for her father, Gerald Dearing. Her black and white photographs of Petit teaching students his secrets reveal his generosity of spirit and Dearing’s own awe at his fantastic skill.
