This event has ended.

White’s new work expands his previously explored notions of corporality in a variety of media. Shown together for the first time, his sculptures and paintings present a unique and challenging view of the human form; the beauty of its raw physicality and frank sexuality.

White’s monumentally sized canvases depict landscapes of the flesh, in which distorted male and female figures float and morph in and out of their backgrounds, transformed through the artist’s visceral application of paint. Though these new paintings veer towards abstraction, the human form is always present, either as a center point or as a point of departure for spatial exploration. The overwhelming size of the works and the physicality of the painterly residue enhance their power and highlight the intensity of the subject matter. Direct and aggressive at first, these works demand a more studied examination upon which the feelings of sensuality, beauty, lust, love and loss can be discovered. Through their dual nature, these works reveal and revel in the universality of human experience.

White’s free-standing sculptures, built out of a variety of materials, such as plaster, bronze, paint, and bits of fabric, were first conceived as tools for rendering form and space in his painting but over time became an important and inseparable part of his work. They inform and further reveal the complex dimensionality that populates the painted compositions.
