"From Budapest to the Bauhaus" Exhibition
Hungarian Cultural Center
This event has ended.
A selection of prints, drawings, illustrated books and photographs from the collections of Gallery Erdész in Szentendre, Hungary. From Budapest to the Bauhaus presents works by Sándor Bortnyik, Wassily Kandinsky, El Lissitzky, László Moholy-Nagy, Farkas Molnár, Gyula Pap and Henrik Stefan. Reflecting the wide-ranging practices and the experimental teaching methods of the institution that Walter Gropius founded in 1919, From Budapest to the Bauhaus brings together Moholy-Nagy’s rarely seen photographs and abstract constructions; El Lissitzky’s typographic designs; and Molnár’s constructivist theater studies while mapping the connections between the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau and the 1920s Hungarian avant-garde.
