Enniskillen, 2009, Tom Doyle’s newest, large-scale, wood sculpture is inspired by imagery of solitary Celtic crosses that mark the Irish countryside. Its monolithic, vertical, and carved out form integrates Doyle’s favored elements of balance, weight, and tension. By employing cantilevered pieces of wood, his sculptures appear freestanding without any obvious means of support.
