The Pace Gallery (534 W 25th St)
This event has ended.
The first New York exhibition in four years to feature Chuck Close's paintings, and the first to include a large selection of his tapestries. Seven oil on canvas paintings measuring between 72" x 60" and 108-1/2" x 84" will be on view. Subjects include a new self-portrait, portraits of the artists Zhang Huan and James Siena, Close’s daughters Georgia and Maggie, and President Bill Clinton (a 2006 painting on loan from the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.). Jacquard tapestries, woven between 2004 and 2009, which originate from recent daguerreotype or Polaroid portraits of Brad Pitt, Ellen Gallagher, Philip Glass, and Lyle Ashton Harris, amongst others, will also be on view.

This was a great show. You really need to see these things in real life to get any sense of how incredible they are. And they're big and overwhelming.
