Uqbar Foundation "Psychiatric Hospital Pedro II, Rio de Janeiro, 2009"
Cabinet
This event has ended.
In "Psychiatric Hospital Pedro II, Rio de Janeiro, 2009," the Uqbar Foundation, a collaboration between Mariana Castillo Deball and Irene Kopelman, pays tribute to the aesthetics and concerns of Futurist artists such as Fortunato Depero and their fascination for speed. Sculpture-structures inspired by the dynamic shapes created by Futurists to celebrate modernity and progress will serve as a set for both a display of objects—sculptures, drawings, audio-recordings and a publication related to the project—and a series of readings about speed. From the parable about the tortoise and hare to the manifesto of the slow food movement, passing through Futurist texts, the events will provide a contemporary reinterpretation of the Futurists’ research.
The Uqbar Foundation was initiated by Castillo Deball and Kopelman in 2006. It aims to generate a platform for interdisciplinary practice and discussion, creating a dialogue among artists, scientists, and institutions, and developing new ways of collaboration with different areas of knowledge, individuals and institutions such as museums, universities, archives and libraries.
