Lisa Dinhofer "In the Round"
Denise Bibro Fine Art
This event has ended.
This new suite of realist still life paintings and works on paper mark a departure for Dinhofer, as all of the paintings are executed on round panels, giving her intricate and meticulously rendered compositions an expansive kinetic quality. Each painting is shown with its accompanying colored pencil drawing, lending insight into the artist’s process.
The artist’s trademark glass marbles are still present, arranged with hoards of bees, gossamer butterflies, iridescent dragonflies, and other insects. Edges have a limitless quality, and the subjects appear to recede or advance, swirling within the vortices created by the circular space. These still lifes transcend stillness, entering into realms of the magical and spiritual. Dinhofer paints in lusciously saturated hues, achieving intense luminosity. She demonstrates consummate draftsmanship—inside each of her marbles she captures a complex reflection creating a fantastical world within a world effect. This theme is extrapolated in works where marbles become planets, creating solar systems and universes, reminding us of just how small we indeed are.
