Nicelle Beauchene Gallery presents Tabernacle, the first New York solo exhibition by Christopher Davison.

For Tabernacle, Davison explores blatant and covert relationships between symbolism and devout constructs. Referencing the use of emblematic motifs threaded throughout cultural and religious history, Davison invents cryptic environments where fractured figures commingle with spiritual archetypes, natural phenomena and icons of worship. Through his narrative works on paper, Davison creates his own mythos, questioning the boundaries of religious practices and convictions.

Davison’s figures are rendered with a dark absurdity, often naked or oddly clothed with genitals exposed, existing comfortably amid their chaotic surrounds. In Firmament, the protagonist is lying as such, however in a heap of geometric matrixes suggestive of metaphysical symbology. They’re on Their Way depicts three of Davison’s characters dancing among the cosmos, with the central male figure taking on more animalistic properties. Throughout these constructed spheres, Davison’s narratives remain abstract, however the reverie of his subjects is absolute.
Christopher Davison lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his MFA in 2006 from the Tyler School of Art. Davison has participated in exhibitions internationally including at Galerie Plin Tub (Brussels Au Monte En L'air), Paris; Jenny Jaskey Gallery, Philadelphia; Fette's Gallery, Los Angeles; and Julie Chae Gallery, Boston.
