In this artistic duet, Nina Kuo presents large-scale anachronistic painted scenes inspired by Chinese literati paintings and landscapes that composer and video artist Lorin Roser recaptures in single channel 3D animations. Kuo’s classical scholar and Tai Chi figures come to life in animations that evoke contemporary cultural realities that unfold in architectonic urban landscapes. Original choreographed electronic music and sound effects punctuate the futuristic scenes. The layers of textured montage images in Kuo’s paintings and film stills such as “Tang Lady housewife” with a cyber vacuum cleaner tease viewers into another dimension. Both paintings and animation reveal emotive imaginary narratives that expose constructed memories of past-lost landscapes transformed into modern day truths.
