This event has ended.

The show will consist of twelve oils on canvas and four works on paper in watercolor and graphite. In past exhibitions Smith concentrated on painting the human figure and doing portraits based on the artist’s idea of “marking time through daily or weekly repetition.” The exhibitions
showed Smith to be among the most accomplished and challenging of the younger generation of figurative artists, a painter of uncommon talent, technical virtuosity, and originality of vision. Always working from live models, he would pose the figures in the perceived reality of a studio
interior. Interested in minimalist tendencies he kept his color palette neutral and low keyed. In this new body of work Smith introduces the figure in nature and the outside world rebuilt in the studio. He employs a rich, creative color palette and plays with the idea of nature and artificiality, exploiting traditional outdoor painting.
