This event has ended.

Viridian Gallery is pleased to present a new body of sculpted paper and linen works by Janet L. Bohman. Ms Bohman seamlessly integrates the disciplines of painting and sculpting in her painted aerodynamic reliefs. Whether working with linen stretched over a wooden armature or shaped and folded paper, she creates a topology upon which to lay down her fields of color. Color travels along and across the curved and planar surfaces changing in reaction to the adjacent colors, to the lighting of the piece and even to viewer’s position. Color enhances form while form enhances color.

The theme of “Reliefs in Flight” reflects Ms Bohman's fascination with birds in flight and the mechanics of flight. Her small sculpted linen reliefs in the “Flexing” series capture the gestures of birds as they struggle to achieve flight and arise from the surface of the wall. In her larger sculpted linen pieces, flight has been achieved, the shapes are more intricate and deeper while the attachment to the wall is far more tenuous (in one case leaving the wall to be viewed in the round.)
