This event has ended.

"Through the Moon Door" will be comprised of large-scale paintings on wood panel and copper mounted on wood panel that depict nebulas and celestial bodies, armillaries, and large free-standing sculptures of imaginary animals who live on these planets. In addition there will be small sculptures of imaginary insects. Despont’s sculptures are made from his collections of discarded objects from the industrial era; old workshop tools, fragments of machinery and farming equipment found in exotic flea markets and purchased in some strange corner of the internet. These are fossils, bits and pieces left behind —relics of an industrial civilization. Despont takes these worn and used objects and assembles them into something new and unexpected. This
show is a culmination of the artist’s work over the past ten years.
Despont invites visitors to step inside another world, a natural history museum of an imaginary universe—a place of wonderment. The exhibition itself is a viewing experience, transporting its audience into a state of visionary excitement. Upon entering, viewers will be confronted with a large bronze door, The Moon Door,
made with poured white bronze and rusted iron plates. It is laid out so that all planets, respective inhabitants,
creatures and insects may be viewed in relationship to one another; each meant to inform and interact with the
other.
"Through The Moon Door" is a major exhibition of works by the
renowned architect and artist, Thierry W Despont, the fourth exhibition with Marlborough in New York and the first of his paintings, sculptures, and drawings in one venue.
