"The Artist As Troublemaker" Exhibition
Austrian Cultural Forum NYC
This event has ended.
Art often has the potential to "make trouble", with artists serving as the "troublemakers" who want to rethink and reinvent the existing social order and its institutions. Museums are the focal point and testing ground of this encounter. Recent art history, particularly in Austria, is full of such examples. This selection is culled mostly from the collection of the Landesmuseum Joanneum - Kunsthaus Graz - Neue Galerie Graz and shows works which are exemplary of provocative creativity and institutional practice.
