A light-filled space squashed between boutiques and hardware stores, this is the third incarnation of a gallery started by the husband-wife team of Ron Segev and Claire Lemetais. (Thierry Goldberg is a combination of their mothers' maiden names.) Moving from Williamsburg to Chelsea to the Lower East Side, the couple’s joint venture has transformed from an amateur, artist-run space to a small but noted exhibitor of fresh talent. The international duo—he’s Israeli; she’s French—seek out relatively unknown up-and-comers and mid-career artists, often for their first solo shows Stateside. Iraqi landscape artist Ahmed Alsoudani first exhibited here, as did videographer Keren Cytter and black-and-white photographer Swetlana Heger. No larger than the smallest of inner-city flats, this two-room gallery feels like a friend’s well-turned-out living space, albeit one without vintage movie posters.
