The Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA) was established in 2013 in New York City to promote the study of modern and contemporary Italian art and to advance public appreciation of this art in the United States and internationally.
Each academic year CIMA presents an installation spotlighting the work of thought-provoking artists rarely seen in the U.S. The installations bring into dialogue the work of modern Italian artists with contemporary practitioners, illustrating the impact and ongoing resonance of these works today. The installations provide a theme and organizing principle for CIMA’s fellowship program, which aims to promote new scholarship in the field through the support of pre- and post-doctoral students from around the world.
