BAM's mission is to be the preeminent progressive performing and cinema arts center of the twenty-first century, engaging both global and local communities.

BAM embraces the visual arts through collaborations with artists, exhibitions, commissions, and the creation of prints and special editions for fundraising purposes. In the past, BAM has commissioned renowned visual artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Willem de Kooning to produce Next Wave Festival posters. Today BAM continues to highlight visual artists by featuring their works on the cover of BAMbill. Since the 1980s, BAMart has exhibited hundreds of artists, including Louise Bourgeois, Chuck Close, Mary Heilmann, Alex Katz, Wangechi Mutu, Yoshitomo Nara, Jean Shin, Leo Villareal, and William Wegman.
