Zürcher Gallery
Gallery in The Villages area
Zürcher Gallery in New York officially opened its doors in March 2009. It is the American sister-space of Galerie Zürcher, founded in Paris in 1992. Zürcher Gallery focuses on emerging American artists (Brian Belott, Paul DeMuro, Matt Bollinger among others) as well as European and Asian artists (Marc Desgrandchamps, David Lefebvre, Katharina Ziemka, and others). One artist of note is Wang Keping (b. 1949, Beijing), a Chinese sculptor and founder of the “Xing Xing” or “Stars” movement of 1978 and 1979. Also represented is Regina Bogat (b. 1928, Brooklyn), whom the gallery just re-discovered in 2013.
Cofounder Bernard Zürcher is an art historian and author of several works on modern art, in particular Georges Braque (Rizzoli, New York). He also created an international contemporary art prize for the Hôtel Le Meurice in Paris. Additional cofounder Gwénolée Zürcher, an expert in the field of Asian art, has translated several books on art, including Degas by Denys Sutton and New York 1945 – 1965 (l’Office du Livre).
