Momenta Art is an artist-run charitable institution that works to promote emerging and underrepresented artists. We seek to expand the dialogue of art by showing work that is not well represented in commercial galleries because of its form or content. Momenta promotes work that explores the nature of aesthetic experience balanced with social engagement.

Momenta Art was originally established in Philadelphia in 1986 by Eric Heist, Donna Czapiga and James Mills. In 1992, under the direction of Eric Heist and Laura Parnes, Momenta Art relocated to New York City, to function as a migratory gallery while presenting exhibitions in a variety of temporary venues in Manhattan. In March of 1995 Momenta Art reopened in a permanent exhibition space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
