Since its establishment in 1966 with an embarking exhibition "Selections of Chinese art from private collections in the Metropolitan Area," China Institute Gallery has presented over 80 highly focused exhibitions of Chinese painting, calligraphy, architecture, decorative art, folk art, photography and textile curated by internationally recognized scholars. China Institute Gallery remains New York's only non-commercial exhibition space, other than the Metropolitan Museum of Art, dedicated to exhibitions on traditional Chinese art
