Venetia Kapernekas began exhibiting art by founding and directing Icebox¸ the gallery in Athens¸ Greece¸ where she created an international contemporary venue for artists' projects and curatorial endeavors between the years of 1994 - 1998. In 1999¸ she relocated the gallery to the New York art scene with Venetia Kapernekas Fine Arts¸ a project space located on the same premises on 26th Street.

Venetia Kapernekas Gallery originated in 2005 as a partnership between Alexander Gray and Venetia Kapernekas (Gray Kapernekas Gallery). The gallery represented a select group of visual artists with a focus on mid-career figures who became known in the 1980s and 1990s.
