This event has ended.

Spencer Brownstone Gallery presents new paintings by Gail Stoicheff in the Front Room. Stoicheff’s large scale paintings combine expressive abstraction and inlaid symbols to generate otherworldly compositions.

Her idiosyncratic approach to painting employs both traditional mediums such as oil paint and canvas alongside experimental technique using dye, velvet, and fringe. Stoicheff’s approach to painting is dichotomous - its foci oscillating between the Apollonian structure and symbols and the expressive Dionysian brushwork - that explore relationships between chaos and reason, logic and emotion, and intention and impulse.

Drawing from her Greek heritage and early exposure to astronomy, Stoicheff illustrates her relationship with the sublime through these spatial relationships and ethereal compositions that bring the human being and the stars closer together.

Special thanks to Lauri Firstenberg for the introduction to the artist.
