Welancora presents Migrating Sun Part 1, an exhibition co-curated by Na’ye Perez that explores the impact that migration has on the places and people that get left behind.
Voluntary migration is a double edged sword. Over shadowed by the promise of a new homeland, origin stories become difficult to recall and opportunities for community building back home are diminished. The artists in this exhibition deal with this liminal space by bringing together inherited textiles, water sourced from oceans and rivers around the world, rubber tires, photographs from family archives and Caribbean vernacular as a point of departure to radically reorient origin stories.
