This event has ended.

Currency, a solo show of new work by Jamea Richmond-Edwards opens at Kravets Wehby Gallery on October 6, 2022. In this body of dazzling, large-scale, mixed media paintings, Jamea delves into the meaning of the word currency. Borrowing from mythology she analyzes the interconnectedness of language and culture and pushes the boundaries of the disparate meanings. Jamea has inserted herself and her family in alternative realms surrounded by mystical creatures. She travels out of this world only to peek back in.

Jamea Richmond-Edwards is included in a traveling exhibition titled: A Movement in Every Direction: Legacies of the Great Migration, co-curated by the Mississippi Museum of Art and the Baltimore Museum of Art. The exhibition opens at the BMA on October 30, 2022. Her work has recently been reviewed in ARTnews, Hyperallergic, and The New York Times. Jamea will have a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami in November, 2023.
