Curated by Erica Rosenfeld

Heller Gallery presents Re-Formation, a wearable art exhibition curated by artist & jeweler Erica Rosenfeld. The exhibition is part of NYC Jewelry Week 2021.

Re-Formation includes fourteen artists whose practice employs glass and mixed media in sculpture, installation, performance and functional design. Rosenfeld asked them to re-imagine their work as jewelry looking at the function of material and the relationship of value and adornment. Some of them have never made wearable works, while for others a jewelry practice is their main form of expression.

Rosenfeld says that “jewelry is a form of expression — by both the maker & the wearer — that can tell stories about history, tradition, culture, desire, memory, class, ritual, and human connections. In bringing this diverse group of artists together, my hope is that the dialogue between their work will convey some of these themes.” Rosenfeld’s background in performance, glass-making and jewelry-making inform her approach to the curating of Re-Formation as community-building.

An event of NYC Jewelry Week, Re-Formation proudly embraces its motto of ‘jewelry for all.’ The exhibition includes work by Rosenfeld as well as Hungarian artist and queer activist Tamás Ábel, artist and recently named director of UrbanGlass’ Bead Project program Victoria Ahmadizadeh Melendez, California jeweler Nikki Couppee, artist and winner of the first season of Neflix’reality glassblowing competition Blown Away Deborah Czeresko, jeweler Anna Johnson, artist & head of Temple School of Art glass program Jessica Jane Julius, British artist Joanna Manousis, jeweler and performance artist Rachel Rader, Japanese-born & Brooklyn-based designer & master glass-blower Michiko Sakano, artist & designer Alison Siegel, New York jeweler Biba Schutz, Indian born & raised artist and Massachusetts College of Art & Design faculty Anjali Srinivasan, Brooklyn-based artist & designer Thaddeus Wolfe & designer & artist Chris Wolston, who splits his time between studios in New York and Medellin, Colombia.
