This event has ended.

Theodore presents a two-person exhibition of work by Raisa Nosova (US) and Corinna Spencer (UK). These two artists use the female body as a textual foundation on which to build wildly different worlds of fantastic vistas and gimlet-eyed critique.

Raisa Nosova’s current work is a documentary self-portrait through pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and postpartum. Her multidisciplinary practice consisting of video, glass and breastmilk sculpture, as well as painting, is a visceral expression of motherhood pride and fragility. Through her work, Nosova dissects, peels, slices, unveils and reorganizes extreme experiences in order to process the ramifications on body and mind.

Raisa Nosova is a Russian-born American artist. She holds an MFA degree from NYU Steinhardt. Solo exhibitions include 80 WSE Gallery, New York City, La Galerie Emeric Hahn, Paris and Gallery 51, Montclair, NJ. Nosova’s public art projects are located in New York City, Milan, Paris, Berlin, Yonkers and Hoboken, NJ. Group shows include Monmouth Museum, Morristown Museum, the Whistler Museum, Mulberry Street Library, 440 Gallery, NYC, Armory Art Center, West Palm Beach and Drawing Rooms, Jersey City. Raisa has been an adjunct painting professor at New York University.

Corinna Spencer creates painting that prods limits of recognisable figurative form. Embracing subjects such as love, death and solitude, Spencer combines these themes within an uncanny landscape that is both interior and exterior, physical and psychological, radiantly beautiful and darkly foreboding.

Corinna Spencer was born in London and is currently living and working in Devon, UK. Spencer studied at KIAD Maidstone, followed by gaining her BA in Fine Art Painting in 1996 and an MA in Painting in 2008 from Coventry University School Of Art and Design. Corinna regularly exhibits in group shows nationally and internationally, as well as solo shows including ‘Mourning Portraits’ at Automatic Sweat Salon, Los Angeles in 2015, ‘Portrait Of a Lady’ an installation of one thousand portraits at Nottingham Museum and Art Gallery, in 2016 and more recently ‘Lovely Creatures’ in 2018 at That Art Gallery, Bristol.
