Local Project Art Space presents LUMINA, a group exhibition of site specific installations curated by Tristen Demmett. Lumina interprets the multitude of ways light can be created and utilized by means of projection in dialogue with three-dimensional objects and space.

The exhibition includes works by New York based artists Valeria Divinorum, Dario Mohr, Jonathan Sims, and joshuagabriel. The artists come together to fabricate a unique space of coexisting luminescence, sculptural objects, and projections in conversation with one another. Light is created and manipulated to react upon the artist’s crafted physical object, and simultaneously produces shadows and refractions that are just as important. Hand drawn patterns are projected as moving, colored light onto brick walls. These works speak to the phenomenon of the effect that wavelengths of light can have on the human psyche.

Valeria Divinorum’s practice embodies light, geometry, structures and translates symbolism from ancient cultures into contemporary creations, finding new forms of relating to spatial interaction by the interpenetration of space into one single sculpture. Dario Mohr creates assemblages and installations that re-imagine nostalgic personal objects as symbols for memories, people, and experiences that can take on a spirituality de-contextualized from religion.
Jonathan Sims invokes projection installations that investigate the elements that reach across time, space, culture and language to reveal universal truths about human society. JoshuaGabriel alchemizes line drawing, video projections, music, and performance to create a kind of hybrid space which connects a mythologized version of his own ego with the greater cosmic group consciousness.
