Winston Wächter Fine Art presents Tracy Rocca’s exhibition Allay.

In this new series, Rocca draws inspiration from butterflies and their various patterns, textures, and layers of meaning. These meditative paintings feature the distinctive luminosity and unique sense of depth found throughout Rocca’s work.

Working in a studio with all-natural light, Rocca paints slowly and methodically as she builds up thin veils of slow-drying organic paint over weeks or months. Over time, a gentle focus and glowing light emerges, providing the mind and eye a place of rest and calm. In past series, Rocca has explored themes of space and landscape. Here, she transitions to focus on a small living being—the butterfly—creating compositions that are equally inspired by scientific images, her own imagination, and intuitive and spiritual feeling toward the subject. For Rocca, butterflies are hopeful symbols, fragile yet resilient, and quietly transformative.

The organic shapes and colors in these works blend and morph between abstraction and recognizable forms in nature. Some are direct and familiar, as in one work depicting a Monarch wing. Others are speckled in a prismatic rainbow of light, like seeing the world through a kaleidoscope. These peaceful compositions explore ideas of grace and metamorphosis, inviting viewers to welcome transitions in light and color, and in all things around us.

Tracy Rocca currently lives and works in Albuquerque, NM. Rocca received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington and her Post Baccalaureate from the California College of the Arts Extended Education. She has shown her work internationally and is represented in many private and public collections including the United States Embassies Collection, the Microsoft Art Collection, the Ritz Carlton and the University of New Mexico Collection.
