A THROW OF THE DICE WILL NEVER ABOLISH CHANCE is an exhibition of multidisciplinary work created within the last year by artists from the Residency Alumni Network at SVA. Curated by Andrea Champlin.

Taking its name from the enigmatic poem by 19th Century French symbolist Stephane Mallarme, a throw of the dice will never abolish chance reflects on the dynamic of chance encounters and the interrelationships that emerge when artists convene from around the world during a time of global turmoil and unprecedented online connection. Based in Austria, Mexico the United SStates and Uruguay, the artists are all former SVA Artist Residency Project participants who have been meeting online weekly for discussion, critique and mutual support during this isolating time.

Much like the spaces in the Mallarme poem, the geographical spaces between the artists and the comingling of ideas have activated the whole of the group. By coming together in the space of the gallery, these gaps are momentarily bridged, and the participants exist, for a time, via their work, in a shared physical context.

Featuring artists Albert Abdul-Barr Wang, Allison Hunter, Andrew Ackerman, Diane Tenerelli, Edi Beaucage, Ellen Hallie Schiff, Marisa Bernotti, Nin Gospodin, Renee Rey and writer Aditi Ruiz.
