This event has ended.

Marinaro presents Theodore Sefcik’s Keep Going, his first solo exhibition with the gallery.

Keep Going is an installation consisting of unique, customized video screens with microcomputer control, simulating a menagerie of colorful portals into unknown, chimerical dimensions. Using Sefcik’s characteristic, homebrew animation techniques, he expands his narrative scope beyond our contemporary human experience and unearths potent evidence of primordial consciousness.

Sefcik’s visual stories are a mash-up of extremes—community and solitude, adventure and imprisonment, the sophisticated and primitive, figurative and abstract, and broadly, order and chaos. The scenes feature enigmatic, puppet-like subjects that resemble shuffling giraffes, inscrutable factories, pliant humanoids, frenzied molecules, swooning bacteria and many unidentifiable entities.

Each piece is a self-contained unit that is vibrant, dynamic, and intuitive on approach, but ultimately defying straightforward interpretation. Sefcik encourages the viewers to weave their own interpretive back-story and head canon.

Theodore Sefcik is known for his enigmatic animations, which combine the aesthetics of primitive shadow puppetry with early color video art. Presented on atypical, repurposed and scavenged LCD screens, his creations range from scenes of biomechanical chaos to inscrutable assembly lines, to microscopic aquariums and adventurous mirthful creatures. Sefcik’s unique video pieces and glitchy AI-assisted digital photography have been exhibited in private and public exhibitions, in solo and group shows in New York, Miami and Malmo, Sweden. Sefcik also performs original compositions, songs and spoken word pieces as RAXTSFK.
