Surf N’ Turf is an exhibition of glass and mixed media sculptures by Alison Siegel & Pamela Sabroso that will delight the appetite of any curious viewer. This wildly inventive body of work was begun during a 2019 joint residency at the Corning Museum of Glass and completed in 2020 during the artists’ residency at UrbanGlass. The duo’s no-expectations, intuitive style of creating is fearless. The resulting works are small in scale, but limitless in their vision. They elicit a sense of freedom and joy that challenges viewers to join in the fun and see the world through new eyes.

Pamela Sabroso holds a 2007 BFA in Crafts and Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. Alison Siegel received her BA in English and Glass in 2009 at Alfred University. The two artists started collaborating in 2014, and found that their ideas grow into forms through drawings, discussions and the physical action of making together. While their sophisticated, labor-intensive process date-stamps their work to the 21st century, the two artists channel a more essential creative freedom that recalls the early American Studio Glass practitioners’ exploration of glassblowing in the tumultuous Age of Aquarius.

Their work is included in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass (Corning, NY) and the Museum of Arts and Design (New York, NY), where it was included in the 2018-19 exhibition MAD Collects: The Future of Craft, as well as the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustri-Museum (Trondheim, Norway). In early 2021, their work will be included in the upcoming exhibition Objects: USA 2020, a major survey exhibition (postponed due to the pandemic) celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original 1969 landmark exhibition Objects: USA.
