THROCKMORTON FINE ART presents a specially curated selection of pre-Columbian artifacts, archaic Chinese Jade and ceramics, Tribal art and Vintage photography at the 66th Annual Winter Show (formerly titled Winter Antiques Show). This is the gallery’s 34rd year participating in the renowned New York show at the Park Avenue (67th Street) Armory — this year being staged from January 24 – February 2, 2020, with an Opening Night Party on January 23rd.
“The Winter Show attracts the most knowledgeable collectors, scholars and museum officials,” says Spencer Throckmorton. “There are 150 experts vetting the offerings from 70 of the world’s most respected antiques and art dealers. Many save their most important acquisitions for this event.

“The Winter Show’s reputation is for showing ‘only the best of the best.’” Many of the museum-quality art and antiquities on offer have not been seen on the market for decades. The Pre-Columbian and tribal art, Chinese jade, ceramics and photographs we offer have been carefully vetted to insure authenticity.”
Among important artifacts at the Throckmorton stand, visitors to the Winter Show will see a green stone Mayan Hacha of a Man dating to 600-900 AD, a green jade with cinnabar Mezcala Olmec Mask from 1800-1200 BCE, a Jade Taino Pounder in the shape of an Opossum from Santa Domingo, 900-1500 CE, a hard stone Teotihuacan Mask, 250-450 CE, a Jalisco Terracotta Seated Mother and Child, 100 BCE – 250 CE, a Colima Seated Shaman Figure Vessel, 150 BCE – 250 CE, and an Olmec Duck Mortar, 1100-500 BCE.

The Winter Show is an annual benefit for the East Side House Settlement, a community-based organization in the South Bronx. East Side House’s programs focus on education and technology as gateways out of poverty and as the keys to economic opportunity. All revenues from the show’s general admissions and the net proceeds from the Opening Night Party and other events go to East Side House and contribute substantially to its private philanthropic budget.
Spencer Throckmorton has pursued a long-held interest in pre-Columbian art, Chinese jades, Asian sculpture and Latin American photography, staging gallery shows and producing a series of publications that have attracted the attention of both collectors and museum officials.

Demonstrating the gallery’s commitment to connoisseurship, Throckmorton has achieved sales to such major museums including The Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Getty and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston along with the Reina Sofia in Madrid. Portions of collections the gallery was instrumental in forming have been donated to the Louvre. The gallery loans examples on a regular basis to such significant institutions as the National Gallery in London.

As the premier dealer offering extraordinary pre-Columbian art and vintage and contemporary Latin American photography, Throckmorton Fine Art participates in internationally acclaimed fairs, including The Winter Show, the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW, and exhibitions during Asia Week in New York.
