This event has ended.

Fergus McCaffrey presents MERCER STREET, opening at the gallery’s New York location. Featuring Marcia Hafif, Joan Jonas, Shigeko Kubota, and Jackie Winsor, the exhibition brings together a selection of work by these four pioneering artists, residents of 110/112 Mercer Street, from the mid-1970s to today.

Crucial to capturing the history and creative development of New York’s downtown community, Hafif, Jonas, Kubota, and Winsor offer a generous cross-section of painting, performance, photography, and film spanning five decades. Singular in their approach and process, each artist shares an immediacy and intimacy initially bound by a common physical space, and ultimately realized by a rigorous feminist ethic that stands apart, in its proficiency and resiliency. Inherent in these works are immeasurable worlds of personal reference, action, and experience, which evolved together in a shared context with the many downtown artists and peers who moved through Mercer Street.
