At once intimate and universal, idyllic and doom-riddled, Giangiacomo Rossetti’s painting dances between empiricism and fantasy. In careful brushstrokes, Rossetti introduces our present moment’s vernacular to the monument of art history. Resurfacing various painterly schemes and techniques, the artist postures himself and friends in canonically suggestive compositions. Rossetti examines the synchronicities that support resuscitations of the old masters’ touch, meanwhile opening a discourse on objectivity and illusionism in the theater of contemporary painting.
Giangiacomo Rossetti (b. 1989, Milan) lives and works in New York. Le Fantasie is the artist’s debut solo exhibition with Greene Naftali. Recent solo exhibitions include Mendes Wood DM, Brussels (2019); Riverside, Bern, Switzerland (2018); Federico Vavassori, Milan (2017); Warm, São Paulo (2016); and GRGLT, Turin, Italy (2015). Notable group exhibitions include Stuart Shave Modern Art, London (2020); Greene Naftali, New York (2019); Braunsfelder Family Collection, Cologne (2018); and the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles (2017).
