Mary Ann Unger “Fluid Line: 1968-83”
Davidson Gallery
This event has ended.
Davidson Gallery presents Fluid Line: 1968-83 – our third exhibition of Unger’s work – which will focus on one particular stage of her drawing and sculpture. Unger was most well known for her sculpture, mostly large-scale works with took on more a biomorphic quality. The works often appeared scarred and bandaged, dealing with the joy of new motherhood coupled with the solemnity of the disease which eventually claimed her life. Art critic Roberta Smith wrote Unger’s obituary in the New York Times, proclaiming that “Unger’s works occupied a territory defined by Eva Hesse and Louise Bourgeois, but the pieces combined a sense of mythic power with a sensitivity to shape that was all their own.”
