Mitchell Algus Gallery presents a rotating summer group show exhibiting some of the best work presented over the past quarter century.
As the gallery’s lease comes up for renewal, continuation is not possible without the subvention of the art community – specifically collectors, art advisors and museums – whose attendance and support has real, existential consequences in the fog of business that makes exhibitions, this gallery’s raison d’être, possible. Today, small- and medium-sized galleries are the canaries in the – increasingly unfrequented – coal mine, encaged beneath the imperious archipelagos of mega-galleries and the orbiting, potentially hazardous, secondary bodies of the art fairs.
