This event has ended.

GR gallery presents “MIDNIGHTS”, a vanguard exhibition of new works by Brooklyn based artists Yoon Hyup and Bisco Smith. For their first two person show at GR gallery they have engaged in a close dialogue inspired by the artistic energy driven through the late night rebellion and the galvanizing city lights at night. The sharp artworks by Hyup and Smith, dynamic but discrete unto themselves, speak to each other in a confident and refreshing harmony.

“MIDNIGHTS” puts together 30 pieces, including paintings, works on papers, installations, two individual new prints and interior murals.

On April 10 there is going to be the launch of the two individual prints by Bisco and Yoon. During the event, planned from 6:00 to 9:00, artist will sign prints on site. More information will follow soon.

The Show aims to exhibit the unique artistic power of these two internationally known and bold talents that are bringing to a new level the idea of a controlled and externally inspired abstraction in urban art, depicted through two self developed and peculiar languages. Music, lights, the city’s architecture, beats, colors, landscapes and sounds, channel their energy into a clean and bold form that often can not be limited in the canvas and spread all over the environment, able to immerse the viewer into an intense crushing experience.

With influences ranging from traditional Korean art to the skateboard culture he embraced at an early age, Yoon Hyup (1982, Seoul) has developed a distinct minimalistic and bold aesthetic that synthesize the New York City night perception and landscapes through a unique vocabulary made of lines and dots. Today, his work is exhibited globally in cities like New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Milan.

Bisco Smith (1980, US) has been between art and music his whole life, he’s been drawing and making music since elementary school and the two disciplines keep influencing each other since then, making his paintings in a sort of musical score. His new series of lyrical artworks addresses New York nights stories, tales of late work, inspiring silence, rapid lights and frenzy beats. Bisco Smith has exhibited art, performed music, painted murals, and partnered with creative brands and live events worldwide. His work is regularly exhibited in major markets and is collected by both national and international collectors.
