This event has ended.
P·P·O·W presents Foskers & Egg Whites, Ben Gocker’s third solo exhibition with the gallery, featuring a new body of large-scale assemblages. Beginning with the often ephemeral or over-looked, such as children’s puzzle books or dollar store word search collections, Gocker creates assemblages that offer the freedom of endless rearrangement and playful experimentation. Fashioned from carved and painted wood pieces, tin cans, wire, rocks, newspaper, and scraps of this-and-that, these new brightly colored, quilt-like arrangements look both forward and backward; many of the pieces in the show include elements from older work, which have been here disassembled and reincorporated. Employing a kind of rough and ready marquetry, Gocker revitalizes the reconstructed fragments in this exhibition to propose a new approach to expressionism, materiality, and poetic space.
