This event has ended.

Susan Grabel is a figurative sculptor and printmaker. Her work deals with the human dimensions of social issues. She has explored such issues as consumerism, homelessness, alienation and aging women’s bodies which she expresses through the mediums of wood, clay, cast paper, prints and mixed media.

Forward Together, an exhibition of Grabel’s digitally fabricated work in wood and steel, expresses her vision that the only way for civilization to survive is for people to embrace their shared humanity and move forward together. Her work is a metaphor for this path to survival and is enhanced by the color of the wood stains as well as the forms and rhythms of the positive and negative spaces.

This exhibition is a further iteration of her prior work in Confluence: The Way Forward, an exhibition mounted at Ceres in 2016. It expands the content and utilizes the processes of new technology and the expertise she found at the Staten Island Maker Space.
