This event has ended.

Foley Gallery presents New Flowers, a solo exhibition featuring new photographs by Dusseldorf based artist Martin Klimas. This will be the artist’s 6th solo exhibition with the gallery.

In his continuing Flowers series, Klimas continues to experiment with temporary sculpture structured by motion and time. Klimas composes classic, elegant still-life scenes with blossoming flowers placed in vases, nestled against vibrant monochrome backgrounds.

The photographer then makes just one exposure, set off by the sound of impact as a spring-fired projectile burst the vessel into a bedlam of fragmenting pieces. The resultant image captures what the human eye cannot and is deemed successful only when the height of tension exists between poised, motionless flower and its rupturing container.

Martin Klimas received his diploma of visual communication from the Fachhochschule Düsseldorf in 2000. His photography has appeared in The New York Times Magazine and ARTnews. Klimas has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and fairs throughout Germany, abroad and in the United States including a solo exhibition at The Andy Warhol Museum in spring 2008. His work has appeared on plates commissioned by VOGUE for the 2016 Met Gala. Martin Klimas currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
