Cristina Grajales Gallery presents Impressions a group show featuring a poetic dialogue between photography and design. Works from designers Christophe Côme, Stefan Bishop, photographers Don Freeman, and Matthew Jensen juxtapose two dissimilar processes of observation and the resulting impact for their works. Freeman’s photographs and Côme’s glass collection manipulate perspective by altering light, bending and exposing their observations into contemporary viewpoints. In counterpoint, Jensen’s photographs and Bishop’s collection apply technological methods to distort the perspective from which they create works that imitate found natural objects or landscapes, yet they’re imbued with futuristic implications. Pompeii, Freeman’s series of photographs, has never been shown and uses extended exposure and darkroom filters to manipulate seemingly ancient silhouettes. Jensen’s series, Traffic Cam Sunrise follows the sun as it rises across the country, capturing a photograph from traffic cameras installed and streamed online by the respective state agency. Both groupings of designer and photographer leave unique and distinctive impressions while inspiring modern takes on ancient and natural objects.

Additional featured works by Alexandra Agudelo, Pedro Barrail, Christophe Côme, Emerging Objects, Gloria Cortina, Betil Dagdelen, Hechizoo, Zsuzsanna Füzesi Heierli, Sang Hoon Kim, Steven and William Ladd, Aaron Poritz, and Madeline Weinrib.
