This event has ended.

Demisch Danant presents Sheila Hicks: Line by Line, Step by Step, the exhibition on view at the gallery’s West 12th Street space since April 29th, will give way to a second chapter with a brand new selection of historical works by the artist accompanied by related French design objects.

The exhibition presents ‘minimes’ and other works from sixty years of Hicks’ intimate practice, in an installation that further reflects her journeys, discoveries, and unique sense of place. As a contained personal archive of experience, each artwork by Hicks unveils hidden meanings and invites the viewer into a labyrinth of ideas.

Sheila Hicks (b. 1934, Hastings, Nebraska) received her BFA and MFA degrees from Yale University. She received a Fulbright scholarship in 1957-58 to paint in Chile. While in South America, she developed her interest in working with fibers. Recent solo presentations include: Lignes de Vie, Centre Pompidou, Paris (2018); Free Threads 1954-2017, Museo Amparo, Mexico (2017).
