This event has ended.

Barbara Hatfield’s art is marked by an elegant simplicity and sensitivity to form and material. Abstract paintings, done with oil-stick and gouache on linen, offer rich textures and space both deep and broad. Ink drawings of various sizes are spare yet lively. The openness of the work allows multiple readings and its nuances invite and reward sustained viewing.

“ I am most interested in inquiry, in the energy, frequency and tone of a work.
I use very basic materials, most often in a direct and straightforward manner. I enjoy
the challenge of discovering their inherent characteristics and how they might be
employed to speak with both an inner integrity and a distilled physicality. I am
interested to create work that invites and allows an experience that is both intimate
and immense.

Breathing space. Room for wondering. Room for thinking. Room for questioning.
A little humor is essential. Simplicity. Directness. The metaphysical. “ - Barbara Hatfield
