Fergus McCaffrey presents a group exhibition of works by eight women that reveal the complex and often dual nature of human perception.
In Light of Shade, a group show of sculpture, painting, and photography, explores the areas of incongruity between vision and blindness, representation and abstraction, light and shade. Together, the works on view offer moments of fleeting relief from the pressure to present the world in a literal way, rather delving into often mundane phenomena that might otherwise escape our attention. Desaturated shadows on a wall, sunspots that appear on the floor mid-afternoon, flecks of dust in summer light—these images and experiences embrace moments of unknowing, obscured areas of darkness in which known space disappears and imagination takes over.
Featured artists include: Anna Conway, Rachelle Dang, Marcia Hafif, Kathleen Jacobs, Martha Jungwirth, Ishiuchi Miyako, Sally Ross, and Meredyth Sparks.
