“Summer Fling” Exhibition
Kravets/Wehby Gallery
This event has ended.
The Kravets Wehby Gallery presents Summer Fling, a group exhibition of collage and painting by Milo Matthieu, Monica Kim Garza, Jamea Richmond-Edwards, Allison Zuckerman, Devin Morris, Jonathan Chapline, Patricia Renee Thomas, and Brittany Tucker. The eight artists claim their identity through painting and digital distortions of our realities. These artists are challenging the desires on our feeds.
Jamea Richmond Edwards haunting new collaged portraits are both vulnerable and intense. Her confetti backgrounds and floating orbs evoke cooji sweaters. Jonathan Chapline’s hyper-saturated odalisque meticulously removes all curves from his reimagined compositions of historic art. Patricia Renee’ Thomas disarms traditional stereotypes of black women while reinforcing their strengths. Devin Morris distorts complex compositions to investigate the tumultuous history of queer culture. Brittany Tucker’s self-portraits illustrate the dark spaces they occupy, while bringing attention to the hidden faces in the shadows. New paintings by Allison Zuckerman are a true “reflection” of how women have been depicted throughout art history. Milo Matthieu’s careful manipulated of cut paper and paint, and thoughtful application of color are structured like music, sampling from different genres. Monica Kim Garza’s new paintings sit by the pool, drinking Long Island iced teas, while swimming and sunbathing.
