Soho Photo presents its annual Krappy Kamera Exhibition, including the winners of the 2019 International Competition, exhibits by Soho Photo Gallery artists, and Susan Lirakis’ Inner Gardens. The Competition originated at Soho Photo Gallery in 1998 and is one of the high points of the year.
Michelle Bates is this year’s juror. She has photographed and exhibited Holga imagery since 1991 and is the author of Plastic Cameras: Toying with Creativity, the most comprehensive collection of the history of toy cameras, how-to- information and images by 50 photographers. “Jurying photographs for Krappy Kamera is different from choosing images made by ‘normal’ lenses. I look for images I like, but also photographers who don’t simply rely on the quirkiness of the medium, but instead apply their own artistic vision to create images that are both of the medium and transcend it.”
